A career with VNS includes the following key components of a supportive culture and comprehensive package to help meet your personal and financial needs:
All new employees attend a welcoming Core Orientation program. This enables each new team member to fully understand the structure of the agency, our core HEART Values and important key information that every employee should have for a smooth onboarding into the agency and culture. Core Orientation includes:
Clinical Orientation follows Core Orientation and is individualized to each clinician’s background experience and position by our Education Department. Nurses, rehabilitation staff, social workers, and dieticians participate in classroom and field activities modules. The Hospice and Home Care programs have collaborated to develop a blended Clinical Orientation model to expedite orientation of Hospice staff within a comprehensive home care experience.
Preceptor Program
At VNS, we want our staff members to feel confident and supported when they begin working and integrate in a way that is comfortable and positive while learning new policies and procedures. The Preceptor Program is 12 weeks, with variations based on past work experience, learning styles, and availability of the new nurse for orientation.
Classroom orientation and field experiences are blended to allow the application of classroom learning to practice. Regular communication among the team tracks progress to modify the plan as needed. Our Preceptor Program is extended to 16 weeks to accommodate the blended Hospice-Home care orientation model. This consists of 8 weeks of Hospice classroom and field activities (with only pertinent home care practice classes) followed by 8 weeks Home care classroom and field activities.
Throughout your employment with VNS, we want to help you stay at the top of your game. This improves the staff’s job satisfaction and helps maintain excellent clinical outcomes. Clinical competency of direct care providers is assessed, evaluated, demonstrated and improved on an ongoing basis. Competency is assessed on a continuum throughout employment.
Home Health Aides are so critical to our patients. They are the most frequently seen members of our staff, and we take their role and our responsibilities toward them very seriously. Home Health Aide Orientation follows Core Orientation and consists of 10 hours of classroom activities in accordance with state regulations, completion of a qualifying examination, and competency evaluation tool.
VNS offers ongoing education for our clinical, home health aide, and business support staff. Throughout the year, several hours of in-services are offered, providing updated information on areas pertinent to their roles. This enables our staff to remain current with changing standards of care, information, and techniques. We are proud to offer this enrichment opportunity for our staff.
