Hospice at Home Volunteers

Experience the Joy of Helping as a VNS Volunteer

VNS would welcome your participation as a volunteer, helping us make a difference in the lives of our patients and their families and in the communities we serve. VNS volunteers have many different skills and experiences and each makes a real difference in their own way, contributing their time and commitment, with the reward of being truly appreciated by those in need.

Hospice volunteers provide invaluable support for terminally ill patients and their families by providing assistance and comfort during their time of need. Volunteers can work directly with patients, provide supportive services for family caregivers by assisting with errands or transportation, or provide office support for the VNS’ Hospice at Home program. Many volunteers contribute by assisting families through the grieving process. Hospice volunteers receive extensive training and may work in teams which are supported by VNS staff.

If you are interested in this very rewarding way to support hospice services and provide meaningful companionship, please contact our Hospice Volunteer Coordinator at 203-330-9198 or click here to send us an email.

Planned Giving

Making a Bequest

Many of those whose lives have been touched by Visiting Nurse Services of Connecticut and our dedicated staff can share in our commitment to the more vulnerable members of our community by including a bequest to VNS in their estate planning. A legacy gift to VNS, in memory of a loved one, helps ensure that VNS will continue to provide compassionate care and comfort to those in need.

There are many different types of bequests and legacy gifts and every gift, no matter how much, is gratefully appreciated and acknowledged. Estate planning will allow you to retain your use of funds as needed and help you achieve your charitable goals. For information on how you can make a difference now and in the future with a gift that will continues to give, contact Bernie Lynch at 203-366-3821 or click here to send us an email.

Tree of Light

For over twenty years, the families and friends of hospice patients cared for by Visiting Nurse Services of Connecticut have gathered together during the holiday season to remember their departed loved ones with a memorial tree lighting ceremony in their community.

Many families mark the occasion by contributing a symbolic memorial light to their community’s Tree of Light. These contributions benefit VNS’ Hospice at Home™ program and allow VNS to provide compassionate care and comfort for individuals and families in need as they face their final journey. The memorial lights, in colors of green, blue and white, symbolize the comfort, dignity and peace provided by the professional staff and volunteers of VNS' Hospice at Home program.

For additional information on how you can participate in VNS’ annual Tree of Light, have the names of deceased family members read during the Memorial Roll or contribute a memorial light to your community’s Tree of Light in support of Hospice at Home™, contact Lila Grimes at 203-366-3821 or click here to send us an email.
